Welcome to The Arc Bartholomew County, Indiana
The Arc Supports Autism Walk - A HUGE Success!
The Arc Bartholomew County and Best Buddies Columbus East would like to thank everyone involved in making the 1st Annual Arc Supports Autism Walk and overwhelming success!! We enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Arc extends a special thank you to our walkers, volunteers, donors, vendors, and sponsors. There were over 250 people in attendance. Spread the word and we can make next year's event even bigger.
April is Autism Awareness Month
One out of every 88 children in Indiana is diagnosed on the autism spectrum. There is no single known cause for autism. Instead multiple factors may lead to an individual obtaining a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. Autism is referred to as a spectrum disorder to signify differences among a group of people who share a common diagnosis. They all have differences with communication, social, and restricted interests and stereotypic behaviors.
Our school system and day care providers need to be well trained to help children with autism reach their full potential. These children and all children with developmental or cognitive impairment need to be included in all facets of our community.
The ARC of Bartholomew County is a great resource for parents of kids with autism and other cognitive or developmental difficulties. The ARC has members that have been where you are and can help. Applaud and aid in their work of building a community where are people are welcomed.
