Recap of Breaking Barriers 2024
The Arc of Bartholomew County is deeply grateful for your participation in our inaugural Breaking Barriers event, which successfully raised awareness and fostered inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the community!
This event aimed to educate local leaders about the challenges faced by those with IDD, thanks to the support of businesses, speakers, volunteers, and attendees. We are committed to continuing this work and appreciate your support in creating a better future for all.
Tuesday featured a special viewing of Champion at YES Cinema. We had nearly 100 people come enjoy the film, sponsored by Columbus Kiwanis Meridian
Wednesday started with our Live 2 Lead Summit and Breaking Barriers Awards. Participants heard from speakers and learned about ‘High Road Leadership'! In the evening we celebrated at The Arc’s Benefit at The Commons with over 250 community members. Actor, Madison Tevlin shared her story of breaking barriers and achieving dreams. We also heard from Whitney Gaines about the intersection of disability & race, Charlie & Jayne Farber’s Grandson’s story, Self-Advocate Jacob Taylor and Leadership Facilitator Christine Belviy-Keller. It was a wonderful evening of empowerment and advocacy!
Thursday wrapped up the week with the Self-Advocate Leadership Series Kick-off. Advocates heard from Mayor, Mary Ferdon.
A special thank you goes to Madison Tevlin for sharing her inspiring story and to our local sponsors for making the event possible.
