The Arc aims to ensure our community can easily learn about common disabilities, inclusion and assistance programs available. These trainings are meant for businesses, parents, family members, self-advocates and more. We encourage you to partake in these learning opportunities!

For businesses who take all five courses, we will add you to our list of ‘Disability Inclusion Partners.’ This list is shared with our network families as a resource of local community organizations committed to disability inclusion!

We are actively building and adding to this program, please be on the look out for future topics.

Down Syndrome 101

This training provides an in-depth look at Down syndrome, from the biology behind Down syndrome to the accepted language one should use when discussing Down syndrome. Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand Down syndrome and this misunderstanding can be difficult to overcome.

By taking 15-20 minutes to complete this training, you’ll gain valuable knowledge about people who have Down syndrome. Included in the training are optional links to external resources where you can dig deeper into the information included in the training.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

This training explores Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). ASD is a common developmental disorder which changes the way a person perceives and understands the world, especially in regards to social settings. Completing this training will help you become more knowledgeable about autism.

Services and Assistance Programs

Review the information in this training to learn about the variety of services and assistance programs that are available. You’ll learn about government programs; commonly used services and therapies; documents, forms, and plans related to benefit programs; and financial services that can help individuals pay for the services mentioned.

Equality, Accessibility, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

The cultural language associated with improving the availability of resources and increasing acceptance of all people can be complicated and confusing. The purpose of this training is to help you understand these concepts on a deeper level.

In addition to the definitions of the words in the title, this training includes the following topics: mobility and functional supports, sensory-friendly environments, online accessibility, and important government policy that supports inclusivity.

Other Common Intellectual, Developmental, and Learning Disabilities

The world of intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities is vast. This training will provide a brief introduction to a variety of other common disabilities, general health issues common for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and explore a few issues that occur around the time of birth.
